National capital city Delhi provides to the tourists a wonderful highest stone tower as Qutub Minar, located in the direction of South New Delhi distance about 15 km. The construction of Qutub Minar was stared in 1192 by Qutab-ud-din Aibak, who was the first Muslim ruler of Delhi . But only was complete its basement. His successor, Iltutmush added three more stories, and in 1368 Firoz Shah Tuglak built the fifth and the last storey. The development of architectural art & styles from Aibak to Tuglak are reasonably clear in the minar.
The question is, why the monument is that big? Or was there any specific reason to construct such a tall building or it was just a wish of the person who built it?" Well, the exact reason is unspecified to have something related to memorializing the victory. Mughals used to construct victory towers to proclaim and celebrate victories. On the other hand it is said that the minaret was used to offer prayer but it is so tall that you can hear the person standing on the top. In addition, the minaret is not attached on to Qutuddin's mosque and the Iltutmish's mosque.
Qutab Minar is one of the tallest and famous towers all over the world. The minaret is 234 feet "72.5mtrs" high and the highest individual tower in the world. Other towers in the globe are the Great Pagoda in Pekin , China and the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy but all these towers are not as high as the Qutab Minar in Delhi , India.
Qutub Minar of Delhi is decked out with bands of inscriptions, herewith four projecting balconies supported by elaborately decorated brackets. The Quwwat-ul-Islam also is the first mosque of India , which stands at the base of the Qutab Minar. In the interior courtyard of the mosque stands a 7m high iron pillar. It is believed that even supposing you are worthy encircling it with your hands while standing with your back to it, your wish will be granted. Over the eastern gate, it is extolled that the material to build it was acquired from demolishing twenty-seven Hindu temples.
Qutab Minar is another great composition of Mughal architecture. It has a number of floors or storeys which has stunning carvings like the one on the tomb of Iltutmish. There are inscriptions all round the tower and these inscriptions expose that Iltutmish finised the tower. The structure of the wall is created as such that it widens from apex to bottom, presently to make the minar stronger.
