Kolayat Fair

Kolayat Fair Kolyat Fair, one of the most famous fairs in Rajasthan for the intention of getting rid of sins of the life, by taking a sacred dip in the kolyat Lake. Kolyat Fair is held in the Hindu month Kartik ever year in Bikaner . Both Kolyat Lake and temple at a distance of eight km from the prime city of Bikaner are the places where the fair is organized every year. To participate in the fair, a lot of people throng from far and near places. The foremost reason of holding the Kolyat Fair is that Kolyat Lake and temple are regarded as sacred by Hindu. It is believe that by taking a dip on the full moon day in the lake, salivation can be derived. Nationwide and overseas also frequent Bikaner especially during the festive months.

It is regarded that the temple of Kolyatji is one of the holiest of Hindu pilgrimage spots in Rajasthan, and as the historic past of the Kolyat shrine speaks of the arrival of the ancient sage Kapil Muni who meditated in the place. Ever since the sacred tapasya or meditation of Kapil Muni, Kolyat became a religious spot of Bikaner where thousands of pilgrims throng every year in the month of Kartik (October/November) on the full moon day.

From the streets to the people, the spirit of enthusiasm can be seen in every corner of Bikaner for the period of the Kolyat Fair. On arrival the Kolyat temple, people of Bikaner offer their prayers to the feet of the presiding deity and seek its blessings and boons. According to Hindus' believe, it is regarded that taking a bath in the Kolyat Lake makes the soul of the people free from all kinds of sins and evils.

Being a city of beyond measure celebrations, Bikaner is visited by a large number of tourists. Bikaner is known as one of the places where religion and culture have a fine blend that attracts the attention of people belonging to diverse faiths and religions. Kolyat is one of the significant among the various Bikaner fairs and festivals.
