
Baisakhi is one of the popular festivals of Sikhs. It is celebrated with a lot of enthusiast and fun in the state of Punjab all through out of world where there is important Sikh population. Baisakhi is celebrated north Indian, mainly in Punjab, It is a harvest festival when the Rabi crop ready for harvesting and they celebrate the day by performing joyful bhangda and gidda dance. Baisakhi festival is celebrated on the first day of baisakhi month (April-may) according to Sikh calendar and according to English calendar; it is celebrated of month of April 13 every April 14 once in every 36 years. A difference in baisakhi dates is due to the truth that mainly it is celebrated on the thirteenth of April according to the solar calendar not the lunar calendar.

A meaning of baisakhi for the Sikhs is that, on this day in
1699 , their tenth guru Govind Singh organized the order of the
khalsa for the Sikhs. From that day this day is celebrated as a festival. On this day also,
Guru Arjan Das was martyr domed due to Muslim rules who, in barbaric cruelty, threw him alive into a caldron of boiling oil.
Again, on this day in 1875,
Swami Dayanand Saraswati founded the
Arya Samaj a reformed sect of Hindus who are devoted to the Vedas for religious leadership and have discarded idol worship. This day is of huge religious import to the Buddhists because
Gautam Buddha attained enlightenment or Nirvana under the Mahabodhi tree in the town of Gaya on this auspicious day. The day is also known, as Buddha Purnima is some parts of the country.
Baisakhi Celebration
In this day, the people celebrate the baisakhi in a very big way. People wake up early to prepare for the day. Many people also take bath in the holy river to blotch the auspicious occasion. After getting ready, many devotees go to gurudwara and worship meeting organized for the day. Devotees offer the prayer in the Gurudwara and atone for their sin on the auspicious day. Gurudwara is decorated with a lot of flowers and in a very good order and people enjoy this day a lot.
The procession moves through the major localities of the city amidst the rendition of devotional songs by the participating men, women and children. Mock duels, bhangra and gidda performances make the procession joyous and colorful. In occasion of baisakhi, a number of fairs and malas organized in this year.
